VAIO SVE14 in White

Overview

The Sony VAIO SVE14 are a series of mid-high-range notebooks released by Sony between June 2012 and February 2013. These featured a 14" display just like their predecessors, and were intended for mostly home use. There were many versions of the SVE14 released, starting with the SVE141, which was essentially a shrunken down version of the SVE15 and SVE17, just like the VPCEA and VPCEG. The original SVE141 only came with Windows 7.

VAIO SVE14A with aluminum lid and touchscreen

With the release of Windows 8, Sony released a substantially improved model known as the SVE14A. This had a slight revision to the design, and also added many new features to the laptop such as an optional touchscreen, light sensor to automatically change brightness and enable the backlit keyboard and more powerful AMD Radeon 7670M switchable graphics. This time, Sony did away with the STAMINA/SPEED switch and instead went for AMD's default application based switching, which means that modded drivers work perfectly on the hardware.

The SVE14 is primarily constructed of plastic, with higher end models featuring an aluminum lid. It could also be highly equipped, with top models featuring a 1600x900 touchscreen, aluminum lid, i7 quad core and a Blu-Ray drive. There were also a large variety of colour options for the laptop, with "accent" colours for the trackpad border and keyboard keys.

SVE14A Colour combinations

This device is still usable for basic tasks like web browsing and text editing today.

The versions with i3, i5, and especially the i7 quad core can be used for more advanced use, like medium graphical intense games and semi-professional photo or video editing.

We recommend upgrading the RAM to 8 GB (if not already equipped) and to switch the mechanical hard drive to an SSD, if it isn't already installed as default in your model.

This device will fully work on Windows 11 with proper drivers, but it may experience lags and low stability with the Pentium version. However, the SVE14 does have an upgradeable CPU, so it is fairly trivial to swap it out (assuming you don't have an HM70 chipset)
