Recovery Media

Database of recoveries available to download

The list on this page was replaced by our new database. Please access the website here.

Donating new recoveries

You can help us by dumping and uploading Recovery Media from any of the models in the Wanted List.

Useful information

On early XP and older discs, the last disc of the set will usually have drivers.

System Recovery is also known as Disc 1, and Application Recovery as Disc 2.

Problems

Model locks and compatibility

Most recovery discs only work on the model they were created with (model example: VPCZ11C7E), and not on the entire series (series example: VPCZ1). In some cases, they only work on the unit they were created with. Even though those discs would work perfectly on the machine you are trying to install them on, they are locked from installing.

Removing or bypassing model locks

Sony VAIO Recovery Patcher (SVRP) is a utility designed to patch recovery discs to bypass model locks. For now, only Windows Vista, 7, and 8 recoveries are supported, but support for XP and below is coming soon.

Language

With some models lacking a big selection of archived recovery media, you may be forced to use discs in a language you do not understand.

To change language of XP discs, please use the SP3 swap method. This method will change most of the XP installation to your desired language, but some system apps and most importantly preinstalled VAIO apps will remain in the original language.

On Vista and 7, you can use the Vistalizator tool, which allows you to easily install language packs no matter the Windows edition you are running.
