VAIO VGN-BZ seen from the right side

The Sony VAIO VGN-BZ is a business-centric notebook computer series released by Sony in 2008. It is available only in 15.4" size, unlike its predecessor, the VGN-BX, which was offered in both 14" and 15" size.

The laptop is aimed at corporate user, which makes the laptop stand quite apart from other VAIO series which are aimed at home users in terms of design. The laptop is only available in all black color, with a matte magnesium chassis and plastic palmrest, and did not adopt the new chiclet keyboard design. However, it does still retain 2008 VAIO models' iconic ring power button.

The laptop is running on Intel's Montevina Centrino platform, with new 45nm-process Core 2 Duo processor, GM45 chipset with intergrated GMA 4500MHD graphics and DDR2-800 RAM. The laptop was available in various configurations, with different components for corporate users to choose from, maximizing the flexibility for system deployment. The laptop is also available with built-in Trusted Platform Module (TPM) and fingerprint sensor for enhanced security. Docking ability is retained as the previous models did.

The series was refreshed in 2010 as the VPCB series, which was equipped with the new Intel Core i-series processors, and was the last Sony VAIO to have a 16:10 display.

Wireless: Intel WiFi-Link 5100 802.11b/g/n Wireless LAN

OS: Microsoft Windows Vista Home Basic / Business depending on configuration

Weight: 2.6-2.7kg depending on configuration

Media: Dual Layer DVD±RW Drive, Three USB 2.0 Ports, Four-Pin FireWire, PCMCIA Card Slot, VGA Out, Gigabit Ethernet, SD Card Reader, Memory Stick Pro Reader and a Modem

Optional: Bluetooth, Fingerprint Reader, Trusted Platform Module (TPM), 0.3MP Camera and Docking (VGP-PRBZ1)

Daily Usage Today

This laptop is still usable today thanks to its Core 2 Duo processor. With decent amount of RAM it can run Windows 10 without problem, and still can handle daily light-load tasks e.g. simple word processing and watching 720p videos on YouTube. Keep in mind that if you are going to run Windows 10 on this machine, upgrade the drive to an SSD to boost the overall performance.
