Download drivers using sonyvaiodriver.com and a copy of ftp.vaio-link.com + others
Introduction
Sony decided to remove all drivers for Windows 7 and older devices, so now, downloading drivers from the original Sony website is impossible.
However, by simply using two websites, you can find many of them in a few seconds.
Disclaimer
The websites we are about to use are sonyvaiodriver.com and dose.0wnz.at. Alternatively, you can also use the archive.org version of the Sony FTP.
We offer no warranty on what you will find on websites external to the VAIO Library. See VAIO Library's General Disclaimer for more informations.
The information we are using are considered valid at the moment of writing this guide.
Download drivers from ftp.vaiolink.com
We take as an example the research of a NVIDIA graphics driver for a VAIO VPCZ11X9R.
- The first step is to find your Sony VAIO model. Most of the times, your model's name is written on the bezel of the display. Do not use the model name on the Sony sticker on the bottom of the machine (example: PCG-31111M), use the one on the bezel, and if the one on the bezel is incomplete (example: VPCZ1), you should be able to see a small white sticker on the bottom of the machine, with the full model name (example: VPCZ11Z9E). The model number will also be shown in the BIOS.
- Now, visit sonyvaiodriver.com and inside the search box write your model (in this case, VPCZ11X9R) and press "GO".
- You will find a list of drivers, divided by OS version. In our case, we want to download "Preinstalled Drivers and Utilities – Graphics Driver NVIDIA" under "Sony VAIO VPCZ11X9R/B Windows 7 64 bits drivers".
- You can see there's a hyperlink that refers to the old Sony FTP website. This is a dead link because server has been shut down. So just right-click on it and copy the link. In our example, "ftp://ftp.vaiolink.com/PUB/VAIO/Original/Z11_Graphics_Driver_NVIDIA.zip". If the link does not start with "ftp://ftp.vaiolink.com", this method will not work. Please use the alternative method below.
- Now, paste it your browser, and simply replace "ftp://" with "http://dose.0wnz.at/" and press enter.
- You are now downloading your requested driver.
Download drivers from links other than ftp.vaiolink.com
- First, follow step 1 to 4 from the first method.
- If the download link for the driver you wish to download does not start with "ftp://ftp.vaiolink.com", copy over the executable name and extention from the end of the URL (example: http://dlv.update.sony.net/US/pc/SO-511720F03EM.EXE).
- Google the executable name in quotes, (in our example: SO-511720F03EM.EXE) and download the driver from a random site. Please use rebyte.me or other well known sources if possible, but otherwise, download from a random site. Please exert caution when downloading from unknown sites, and run a VirusTotal check if you're uncertain (be careful, drivers can generate false-positives).
Problems
If you find some problems with this guide, try the steps again, step-by-step.
If you are using dose.0wnz.at, make sure that you use http, not https (http://dose.0wnz.at).
