SVE17

From VAIO Library

Overview

The Sony VAIO SVE17 are a series of mid to high-range notebooks released by Sony between June 2012 and June 2013.

As the top of the line portable of the E (SVE) series, they have a 17.3" display with either a 1600x900 or 1920x1080 resolution.

Made mostly of plastic and available in combinations of white, grey, and black, their strengths are the i5 or even quad-core i7 CPU installed as options and the good quality matte 1920x1080 display, which is extremely bright and has great colors.

They were highly customisable and Sony made many versions of this laptop, from basic models featuring a Pentium and 1600x900 display to the top models featuring a quad core i7, Radeon 7650M, Blu-Ray writer, backlit keyboard and a 1920x1080 display. Unlike the smaller SVEs, the SVE17 was only available in 2 colours, white and black (typically on higher end models)

They were shipped with the Imagination Studio Software that gave some basic video editing capabilities.

Daily Usage Today

This device is still usable for basic tasks like web browsing and text editing today. If equipped with the AMD Radeon 7650M and quad-core i7, it can even be capable of some light gaming or semi-professional tasks, non intensive or older games such as Roblox and Minecraft will run good on the laptop.

We recommend upgrading the RAM to 8 GB (if not already equipped) and to switch the mechanical hard drive to an SSD, if it isn't already installed as default in your model.

This device will fully work on Windows 11 with proper drivers, including all function keys, however lower end models such as Pentium SVE17s may suffer slowdowns. Luckily, the GPU is not switchable so the standard AMD drives will work fine, although there have been some SVE17s that do feature switchable graphics.
